Common questions about importing and managing images

Getting Started

How do I install or open Ez Listify?

Open the official Ez Listify listing in the Shopify App Store, then click Install. If the app is already installed on your store, Shopify shows Open instead. Shopify handles store selection, permissions, and installation securely.

How do I import images to my products?

Go to 'Import Images' from the navigation. Select a folder containing your images, choose an available matching method, configure settings, and click 'Browse folder'. Every plan includes automatic SKU/title matching. Plus adds barcode matching, and Pro adds product-metafield matching. Anything Ez Listify cannot match automatically appears in the unmatched review for manual assignment.

How many images can I import at once?

A single import can contain up to 15,000 valid images. This limit counts the images you select, not the number of products in your Shopify store, so stores with more than 15,000 products are fully supported. If you need to import more than 15,000 images, split them into smaller folders and run multiple imports. This per-import limit is separate from your plan's available import allowance and does not remove paid credits.

What happens if my browser refreshes during an import?

Ez Listify saves product-level import progress while the import is running. If the tab refreshes or closes before the import finishes, reopen the app and look for the interrupted import banner. Click 'Resume this import', select the same folder again, and start the import. Products already attached to Shopify are skipped and unfinished products continue.

What image formats are supported?

Ez Listify supports JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WEBP formats. When optional compression or resizing is enabled, the images are processed before they are uploaded to Shopify.

How do I match images to products?

Every plan includes Product Title, Variant SKU, and Automatically (Recommended) matching. On Free, automatic matching tries SKU and then title. Plus and Pro automatic matching also tries barcode, and barcode can be selected directly. Pro additionally unlocks Product Metafield matching. SKU and Title matching support optional special-character replacement for characters such as / that cannot be used in filenames. Anything that cannot be matched automatically appears in the unmatched review.

How do I set up metafield matching?

Product Metafield matching is available on Pro. Go to Settings and configure the namespace and key for the metafield you want to use. Make sure the metafield exists on your products and its value matches the filename stem. You can then select 'Product Metafield' as the matching method when importing images.

Image Management

Can I compress images during import?

Yes. In the Review step, open 'Resize & compress', enable Compress, and choose a quality level from 40% to 95%. Ez Listify shows estimated savings before processing and converts the selected images to WebP.

Can I resize images before importing?

Yes. In the Review step, open 'Resize & compress', enable Resize, and enter the width and height you want. You can choose Contain (Fit), Cover (Fill), or Stretch, and optionally maintain the original aspect ratio.

What happens to existing product images?

By default, new images are added to existing ones. On Pro, choose 'Detach existing images' to remove old images from the product while keeping the original files in Shopify Content → Files. On Plus and Pro, 'Delete existing images' permanently deletes them instead. You can enable only one option. Cleanup happens after all replacement images for that product are imported. Detaching also clears those images from this product's variants. Enable 'Backup existing images' if you want the 24-hour restore option.

How do I set a featured/main image?

Every plan can control the featured image with numeric filename suffixes, such as product-title (1).jpg and product-title (2).jpg; the lower number comes first. Plus and Pro can also drag images within the same product group in Review. The first image becomes the main photo when 'Set first image as featured' is enabled.

How is the image order decided?

On every plan, add a numeric suffix after the title or SKU — product-title (1).jpg, product-title (2).jpg, or SKU-123 (1).jpg — and images sort by that number, lowest first. Plus and Pro also let you drag images within the same product group in Review before starting the import.

Can I preview images before importing?

Yes. The Review tab shows thumbnails of all matched images with their products. Every plan can preview images, see compression savings, edit alt text, remove files from the pending import, and resize images. Plus and Pro also unlock drag-and-drop image reordering.

Why are some images not matching?

Images may not match if the filename does not match the selected method. Free automatic matching tries SKU and title; Plus and Pro also try barcode. For Title matching, configure special-character replacement if characters such as / were changed in filenames. For SKU matching, ensure replaced characters match your Settings rule. Barcode matching (Plus and Pro) requires the filename stem to equal a variant barcode. Metafield matching (Pro) requires the filename stem to equal the configured metafield value. Unmatched images can be assigned manually in Review.

Google Drive Import

How do I import images from Google Drive?

Google Drive import is available on Plus and Pro. On the Import page, click Google Drive, sign in if needed, and approve access. Click a folder once to highlight it, then click Select to load the images Google allows Ez Listify to read. You do not have to open the folder first. Google may return some or none of its images because selecting a folder does not grant access to every file inside it. Check the images in Review. If files are missing, open the folder and select the image files directly, or use local folder import. My Drive starts at the root; shared files and shared drives have separate tabs.

Can I import Google Drive folders with subfolders?

Complete subfolder imports are not guaranteed. Folder selection scans the selected folders and any subfolders Google makes accessible to Ez Listify, but Google may omit files or subfolders the app cannot access. To include missing images, open each folder in the picker and select its image files directly. For a complete folder tree without selecting Drive files, download it and use local folder import instead.

Why do I see 'Google Drive access is required' after connecting?

Ez Listify needs permission to access files you select in Google Drive. If you skipped or declined that permission during the Google sign-in, the app will redirect back with this error. Click 'Connect Google Drive' again and make sure to approve the Drive access permission when Google prompts you.

How do I disconnect Google Drive?

Click the disconnect icon (log-out arrow) next to the Google Drive card on the Import page. This removes the stored tokens from Ez Listify. You can reconnect at any time by clicking 'Connect Google Drive' again.

AI Features

How do I generate SEO-friendly alt text for images?

In the Review step, click 'Generate SEO with AI' to create descriptive alt text by analyzing each selected image. A progress bar shows how many images have been processed. You can click 'Stop' at any time—completed alt text is kept—and every result remains editable before import. For generic non-AI text, enable 'Auto-generate alt text' in Settings.

What languages are supported for AI alt text?

Free and Plus include English AI alt text. Pro unlocks the additional languages in the SEO language setting. AI generation uses the plan's available AI credits, and every generated result remains editable before import.

Backup & Recovery

How does the backup feature work?

When 'Keep a Backup of Your Images' is enabled, current product images are saved before changes are made for that import. Each import session gets a unique ID. Backups are kept for up to 24 hours and can be reverted from the History page within that window.

Can I revert an import session?

Only if the import was run with the 'Keep a Backup of Your Images' option enabled. If it was, go to 'History' and click 'Revert' next to that session (within 24 hours). This restores the affected products to their previous images and removes the newly imported ones. After 24 hours the revert option expires and backups are removed to save storage. Imports run without the backup option can't be reverted from history.

Where can I view my import history?

Click 'History' in navigation to see past import sessions and details such as products affected, images uploaded, compression savings, duration, and status. Plus and Pro can export reports to Excel. Every plan can revert a session within 24 hours when backup was enabled for that import.

Is resume the same as revert?

No. Resume is for continuing an unfinished import after a refresh or closed tab. Revert is for restoring previous product images after an import completed, and it only works when backup was enabled for that import.

Advanced Features

What if my SKUs contain special characters?

Use the SKU or Title special character replacement features in Settings (both are collapsible sections). For SKUs: if they contain characters like / or # that can't be in filenames, specify which characters to find and what you replaced them with — e.g. SKU '0103/SHT25H' → filename '0103-SHT25H.jpg' → Find '/' Replace '-'. For Product Titles: same idea — if your title is 'Ruby/White Track Top' and you saved the file as 'Ruby-White Track Top.jpg', set Title Find '/' Replace '-'.

What does Refresh product data do?

Refresh product data replaces this store's saved product list with the latest data from Shopify. Use it if products were deleted, renamed, or changed and the app is still showing old matches.

Privacy & Account

What happens to my data if I uninstall Ez Listify?

Ez Listify immediately deletes the Shopify access token and any saved Google Drive connection, so the app can no longer access either service. Shopify normally sends its shop-redaction request about 48 hours after uninstall; when that verified request arrives, the remaining shop-owned app data is deleted. Reinstalling before redaction may preserve your plan, credits, history, and backups.
